We're looking for PhD candidates to join FNP Scholarship in Nanoscience to project: "Nanoclusters as multimodal markers in correlative fluorescence-electron microscopy (NANOCLEM)."
Understanding biological processes requires a complex image, with multidimensional information about macro-, meso-, and microscopic structure, dynamics, function, and chemical composition. Because no single imaging technique can reveal all these details, correlative light-electron microscopy (CLEM) is the only way to comprehensively understand biological processes. Within NANOCLEM, we will develop a new type of gold nanoparticles compatible with fluorescence and electron microscopy. Our technology will be based on atomically precise gold nanoclusters, whose unique physics and chemistry will ensure compatibility between CLEM imaging platforms (contrasting capabilities for electron microscopy and simultaneously efficient fluorescence), stability, and excellent reproducibility of the developed labeling procedures for model biological materials.
Research tasks:
1. Synthesis of nanoparticles, functionalization, and characterization of their chemical and physical properties – development of optimal protocols taking into account the project objectives
2. Labeling of biostructures and fluorescence and/or electron microscopy – development of optimal protocols taking into account the project objectives
3. Preparation of reports, publications, and presentation of results at scientific conferences
4. Collaboration with other members of the research group
Requirements for applicants:
- MSc in the field of Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology or related fields,
- Knowledge in chemistry, biochemistry and/or spectroscopy and microscopy
- Willingness and motivation for scientific work;
- An aptitude for experimental research work;
- The ability to learn and assimilate knowledge quickly;
ability to work in a team;
- Proficiency in written and spoken English;
- Computer literacy, knowledge of MS Office and scientific programs used to analyze research results;
- Practical experience in laboratory work in the topics corresponding to the project topics will be an added advantage;
List of required documents:
- CV
- list of publications (also sent) and conference presentations
- cover letter,
- copies of diplomas obtained,
- copies of diplomas, documents confirming the status of a student or doctoral student
- contact details of two scientists, who may recommend the candidate
Particularly important is the information on:
- course of studies and interests,
- past achievements in professional scientific work (completed internships/internships, participation in workshops and trainings, etc.),
- Honors and academic achievements (scholarships, awards, activities in scientific circles).
